Man Found Beaten To Death

Jackson police were investigating what they called a “bloody scene” Friday morning. A landlord discovered a body at about 9 a.m. when he came to fix the air conditioner at 708 Westmont Drive, police said. Police have not released the identity of the man who was killed, but said that he was beaten to death. Lt. Jeffery Scott said that there were signs of a struggle inside the home. Friday’s slaying was the second to be reported in nine hours in Jackson. Police are also investigating a shooting death that happened just before midnight in the 1500 block of Booker Street. Investigators said 19-year-old Melvin Mason was shot several times. Detectives said that Mason tried to drive himself to the hospital, but his car stalled in the 500 block of Raymond Road. Mason then called an ambulance. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died, police said.

Police Investigate Two Overnight Shootings

The Jackson Police Department is investigating two late-night fatal shootings. The first happened around 9 p.m. Sunday on Highway 80 outside the Sleep Inn, and the second occured 30 minutes later at the Sunray Manor Apartments on Sunray Drive. JPD said 33-year-old George Moore was shot to death outside the Sleep Inn. Investigators said they believed Moore was chased by the occupants of a dark Buick Century with tinted windows.
Police said they have no clear motive but believe Moore knew his attackers. The second shooting happened at the Sunray Manor Apartments. Police said a 31-year-old man was shot in the hip and later died at the University Medical Center. The two cases are not believed to be related. Body Discovered In Car

Jackson police said they discovered a body after they responded to a call of shots fired. The body of an unidentified black male 100 block of Houston Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said the victim was shot twice inside a white Mitsubishi. Police said they believe robbery was the motive. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation into the incident continues.
